I have collected quite a number of broken disc magnets from them accidentally slamming together. I decided to glue the pieces in the cups of egg crate packing foam and make my own magnetic pillow.
The 1/4 inch discs are fairly resistant to shattering but unpacking one order I placed a 1 inch sphere on the floor and a 1/4x2 disk 4 feet away thinking it would be safe wile I stored the rest of the order but as i carried the stack by I heard a loud clack. The stack had started the sphere rolling and it hit ted disc in the center shattering it into three pieces. Beware of rolling spheres.
The good news is that the spheres I have purchased from Applied Magnets have been much more resistant to chipping than the ones I have purchased from other sources.
